Fans of the BBC2 quiz programme Eggheads have a treat in store later this year when a team of friends from South East Cornwall take part in the programme.

It was back in January that the team, calling themselves 50/50, travelled to the BBC at Shepherd's Bush, London to film a show after qualifying at the audition held in Bristol.

Since then they have been sworn to secrecy as to how they did and viewers will have to wait until it is screened on October 22 to find out.

The team comprised Linda Farnes, Sheila Harris, Marilyn Towl, Rose James and Karen White.

Team captain Linda Farnes, who lives in Saltash and works for Cornwall Council at Luxstowe House, Liskeard, said: 'We had an amazing day, very nerve-racking but enjoyable at the same time.

'We were made to feel very welcome by the whole production team.

'I would highly recommend it.

'I love watching the show and felt it would be fun to join in.'

Sheila Harris and Karen White, who live in the Liskeard area, were also members of the team, as well as primary school teacher Rose James.

Philip Towl, husband of Marilyn Towl – both now live in Wiltshire – acted as a substitute for the girls.

Philip has managed several local football teams over the years and his wife Marilyn was a local primary school teacher at schools including Menheniot.
