Animals at a local sanctuary have been going wild for pumpkins left over from Halloween.

At Porfell Wildlife Sanctuary near Lanreath, staff look after a huge variety of exotic and native creatures. The sanctuary is unique in providing a retirement home and rescue centre for unwanted animals that come from zoos and wildlife parks.

Every animal living at Porfell has been rescued, said staff member Emma, from parrots that have been living in pubs to zebras from circuses – and many, many unwanted pets.

After a call went out to the centre’s followers for pumpkins, the response was huge: more than 100 were donated, and the residents have certainly been appreciating the treats over the last few days!

While Porfell is now closed for the winter and will re-open on April 2 2022, the sanctuary says it would still very much welcome fruit and vegetable donations to feed to the animals.
