THE intriguing past behind one of Liskeard’s most prominent buildings will be revealed during a talk this evening (June 7).
Luxstowe House, now used by Cornwall Council, was built by the Glencross family in 1831. A lavish family house until it was requisitioned by the War Department in 1940, it has been home to Italian prisoners of war, US troops, the electricity board and even squatting families who made use of Nissen huts on the site at the end of the Second World War.
Stuart House trustee Eileen Crouch has looked back through the Trust archives to find photographs and documents charting the changes at Luxstowe.
Her talk, with guest speaker Cornwall Councillor Sally Hawken, will take place at Stuart House at 7pm.
An exhibition then continues until June 17.
