THERE was standing room only in the coffee shop at Lux Park Leisure Centre, with the biggest turnout ever for the presentation evening of the annual Janet James Memorial Swimathon.
Organised by the Liskeard branch of the British Heart Foundation, a warm welcome was given by chairman Keith Richards.
The mayor of Liskeard, cllr Nick Mallard, expressed his amazement and delight that the people of the town and district had together managed to raise more than £4,000 for the BHF and other charities.
All told the swimathon, which took place in November, raised £3,519.02 for BHF, and £884.12 for other causes, making a total of £4,403.14.
There was loud applause as the mayor presented certificates to all swimmers who had taken part in the swimathon, and awarded trophies for special performances.
The evening ended with refreshments, and many swimmers already planning teams for the next BHF Swimathon in November, with many hoping to beat their own personal records.
New teams and helpers are welcomed each year. More information can be obtained from event organiser Yvette Hayward on 01579 343143.
