An ever-growing three-figure crowd watched as Callington took on the conquerors of Torquay in what can be their only home game in the national cup .
Losing the toss, Callington fielded with Will Craven and Jim Allen keeping a tight hold on the visitors' batsmen. As wickets fell, it became clear that the home side were asserting some control. No bowler or fielder fell below the 'good' grading and spirits were high as Brixham achieved only a modest total.
Greater experience on grass manifested itself as the Callington openers gradually wrested a stranglehold on the match. In just 12.2 overs the Callington lads entered the last 16 of the competition, the first East Cornwall side to do so for 10 years. Alan Rogers, for the sponsors, and County Development Officer Peter Grant were able to present another trophy to Callington skipper, Dom Farris.
Under 15 Team Coach Matt Rickard and Youth Manager Ian Pemberton are expecting an unchanged side to travel to Bath for the Regional Finals on Wednesday, 18th. August. A coach is expected to travel, so any supporters should contact Ian on 01579 350451.
