A 52-year-old sailor from Pensilva has been presented with his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by a former shipmate.
Chief Petty Officer Glen Booth, who works at HMS Raleigh, was recognised for his dedicated service to the Royal Navy.
He was presented with his medal by Commodore Jim Perkes, Deputy Rear Admiral Submarines. Both men previously served together on board HMS Talent.
Nicknamed ’General’ by his shipmates, CPO Booth is serving at the Royal Navy Submarine School passing on his experience to new members of the Silent Service.
He said: ’This award recognises the time I have and continue to invest in the Royal Navy, ensuring the knowledge I have amassed and my experience is passed onto the next generation.
’Receiving my Long Service and Good Conduct Medal from Cdre Perkes had an emotional attachment as we both served together, sharing the ups and downs of life at sea.
’I could only achieve these life-changing experiences with the full support of my wife and family over the many years spent under the sea with limited contact with home.’
Having joined the Royal Navy in May 1981, CPO Booth has served on a total of nine submarines covering global seas and oceans worldwide. He’s also worked ashore at the Naval Bases in Devonport, Gibraltar and Portsmouth.
CPO Booth said: ’Serving with pride for the Royal Navy Submarine Service as an elite and unique band of brothers, who adapt and overcome obstacles to a different intensity, is a highlight of my career. There is a unique bond between submariners.’
