Dobwalls U-15s continued their unbeaten run with a very hard fought 4-3 victory over a very spirited Nanstallon side, despite only having 10 players available.
Dobwalls knew they would be up against it as Nanstallon are always difficult to beat on their own ground. With a very depleted squad Dobwalls needed to show their fighting spirit and excellent team work to come out on top in this fixture.
Dobwalls got off to a great start when Adam Runnalls flighted a superb ball into the box and lone striker Dave Lee stabbed at the ball forcing a good save from the keeper. Unfortunately for Nanstallon Mike Ruark was first to react finishing from close range.
Nanstallon came back at Dobwalls and equalised from a well worked free kick. Dobwalls although one short were playing the better football and they took the lead once again when Sean Sibley, capped what turned out to be a very solid debut performance, with his first goal. Nanstallon however bounced right back and got an equaliser just before half time.
Nanstallon came out in the second half sensing that they had a chance of winning and it was they who took the lead for the first time. Dobwalls then weathered the storm and defended stoutly, all the players were working extremely hard, none more so than Luke Johnson. Dobwalls then got a lucky break and Lee powered his way through to equalise. This goal renewed Dobwalls confidence and before long they had taken the lead again when Mike Ruark rode several challenges before firing in from 12 yards. Nanstallon to their credit came bouncing back and had a goal disallowed for handball. It effected them badly and Dobwalls managed to get the upper hand in the final minutes of the match keeping the ball in Nanstallon's half and restricting their chances. All the players from Dobwalls are to be congratulated for their hard work and team spirit, refusing to be beaten although up against it. Training is on Fridays at 6pm. The next game is at home against Wadebridge kick off TBA.
After five weeks with no game Dobwalls U-12s returned to league action with a well deserved victory at St Stephens. Taking the lead as early as the fifth minute when St Stephens failed to clear a cross. Five minutes later Dan Starr intercepted a St Stephens free kick just outside the Dobwalls penalty area. He found Matt Lindsay on the right flank whose cross was flicked over the oncoming keeper by Phil Benney. Shortly after the home side pulled a goal back but on 18 mins a well struck Lindsay cross squeezed underneath the body of the St Stephens keeper to give Dobwalls a 3-1 scoreline.
Early in the second half a through ball put Shane Ruark in a one on one with the keeper whom he duly sidestepped and finished from a tight angle. With Dobwalls now firmly in control a fifth goal soon followed after some superb interpassing involving no less than five Dobwalls players, finished off at close range by Lindsay.
A sixth goal soon followed, again by Lindsay after which the home side made a late rally pulling the scoreline back to 6-3. In a tense last five minutes and under heavy pressure the Dobwalls back four held firm. After Sam Lovelock had made a superb fingertip save they held on and for the first time this season St Stephens suffered a defeat.
