Electing to open against a stiff north westerly the the sizeable Charlestown side were soon pinned back by their hosts' sharp attacking play. Within five minutes Leigh Gorski had opened the home account, quick accurate passing gave him the time and the space to confidently bag the first of a brace. More pressure, a blatant handball, and up stepped Chris Warren to stroke in a second from the spot.

Stung by the double reverse Charlestown powered forward, only to find 'keeper Chris Prinn in fine shot stopping form. Their pressure told though as first a goal mouth ricochet, and then a deflected corner allowed them to even the game just before half time. Against the wind the home side were now going to have to demonstrate character and technique if they were to claim the points, and how they did as the match built to a thrilling end to end climax.

Again it was Gorski. If his first goal had been 'Cottee sharp', the second was 'Heskey weight'. Back came Charlestown, but Prinn was secure, and at the last it was Warren who broke free to confidently drive a decisive fourth for the home side. If they'd through it all over... it was now!!

"A truly satisfying performance," purred the Liskeard manager. "Charlestown boast a proud pedigree. Drawing form the wide St Austell catchment they compete strongly in the Cornwall and Devon Youth Leagues. Today they were out fought".
