Arriving with a reputation no less fearsome than their name, table-topping Dragons were looking for a 13th consecutive win to maintain their proud 100% record. For Liskeard it was surely about damage limitation. If they fought then hopefully there would be no repeat of their early season double figure roasting and morale would remain intact for next week's cup semi.
Leading scorer Joel Westlake was shrewdly brought back to partner Dale Fisher at the heart of the defence. With his strong clearances there would always be something for the midfield men to chase and maybe then the odd scrap for the forwards. The odd scrap? These midfielders were in battle mode. Ross Westlake, Will Richardson and David Eldston ran down everything. The Dragons were caught cold. They were unsettled, and within five minutes were trailing as Ross powered through to drive low past the keeper. A second quickly followed, Jon Savigar smacking home a snorter from fully 20 yards.
Liskeard it was who were breathing the fire. Now they had to consolidate. The Dragons were stirring, but Dale and Joel had them shackled. Suddenly there was space for Damon Andrew, a darting run and the ball teed for Jason Dunmall as Liskeard registered a sensational 3-0 half time lead.
With the wind at their backs the Bodmin lads were surely going to ignite. They needed a goal maybe, and one came, but it was just the one as Adrian soared across his goal to beat out what was so nearly a threatening second. The Dragons were dashed and It was the Liskeard who were now attacking the ball, meeting it first and clearing and coming close to hitting a fourth. Look out Lostwithiel!
