Under a gleaming January sun Liskeard romped to a fourth successive victory, underlining once again their progress under manager Steve Moorhouse. The visitors were quickly into the lead, Jason Dunmall finishing their first aftack with a coolly stroked opener. Biscovey struck back immediately, taking advantage of a hesitant defence to level. The thawing surface looked to favour nimble attacking and soon Joel Westlake was darting through to drive in Liskeard's second. Jason and Joel were combining well, a neat exchange, a cross and a scramble and there was Damon Andrew to extend the tally to three.
Biscovey will always fight though. They looked dangerous on the break and their fiercely hit second came as no surprise. For 10 minutes the game was in the balance, but with Dale Fisher again strong at the back it was Liskeard who were destined to prevail. Man of the match Jason and Ross Westlake worked Joel free on the right and a shot on the run, zing, the ball in the net.
Four-two and then, with a panic stricken defender stabbing past his own keeper, Liskeard led 5-2 at half time. The respite was temporary. The second period began like the first with Andrew striking his second within moments of the restart. It looked a long haul back for the hosts, but how they stuck to the task. Their marking was improving and their tackling too, and in breakaways they could still be dangerous. Perseverance won them a third and a fighting chance maybe, but there was Jason again wriggling through... this time to be tripped.
Penalty! And Joel Westlake's made no mistake notching his second hat trick in successive games. For Liskeard? A full 4 goal cushion? Unknown territory this. It had to be enough and yes, in the end it was, but not by many. Biscovey, fighting to the whistle, replied with two, and it could so easily have been three but for a late penalty miss. What a game!
