Storm Katie is now predicted to hit Cornwall later this evening (Sunday, March 27).

The latest Met office amber weather warning, updated earlier today, advises: ’A period of heavy, persistent rain is expected to move northeastwards Sunday night and Monday morning, bringing a risk of surface water flooding, perhaps exacerbated in places by wind-blown debris.

’The rain is expected to clear northeastwards from southwest England by early Monday.

’An area of low pressure is expected to rapidly deepen to the southwest of the UK later on Sunday and then run northeastwards across England and Wales on Monday accompanied by some very strong winds, large coastal waves and heavy rain.

’The persistent spell of rainfall could widely bring 10 to 20 mm, perhaps 30 mm locally.

’There remains some uncertainty over the track and timing of this system and thus where the highest rainfall totals will occur. A separate warning covers the expected strong winds from this system.’
