SHOPPERS were unable to get into a high street store for more than two hours as a lorry wiped out the mains power. The Woolworths store on Fore Street, Liskeard was shut after a store lorry hit a light on the shop's wall. The accident blew a fuse inside the store causing emergency lighting to come on and the tills to be locked down delaying trade from 9am. Anxious shoppers had to queue outside the store as the problem was sorted. A spokesman for the store said that after the problem was fixed the store began trading properly around 11.30am. The power cut was just one of the problems caused by traffic on Baytree Hill during the festive period. On the same day Woolworths suffered a power cut a lorry lifted up a manhole cover in the middle of the road. Lorries blocked Pondbridge Hill on two occasions. On Christmas Eve a lorry became stuck for two hours as a van blocked its route on the road. The driver of the van was later given a ticket by police. The same lorry was also stopped for 20 minutes on Wednesday, when another van blocked the same piece of road. Acting Sergeant Mick Howe from Liskeard police said anybody who sees problems in the future should contact the police. 'If people want to phone incidents in to us we will deal with the problem as soon as there are resources available,' he said. 'People in Liskeard have been warned that the new traffic warden will be in place in January. 'It is a bad problem down there (Bay Tree Hill) but we just want people to use their common sense.'
