THE Cornish Cross at Saltash was due to be officially launched on Friday afternoon with TV personalities Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan in attendance to give a short speech supporting the new sculpture.

As well as the 20-metre cross, also being officially opened today is the Elwell Woods site, a community wildlife and parkland area which the Saltash Waterfront Residents Association has been working to transform for several years.

The entire project, which has received £450,000 in Lottery funding, has cost around £600,000.
