Tomorrow, Liskeard’s Kevin Grant will be one of 23 people receiving the 2017 Cross of St Piran.
In an annual service started in 2011, the Cross is awarded by the Diocese of Truro to selected lay people who have given outstanding service across Cornwall.
Kevin is a Roman Catholic Eucharistic Minister from Liskeard who has also trained as a worship leader within the Anglican St Martin’s Church in the town. He sings in the choir, plays the organ, arranges flowers and even cleans the church.
He was a postman for 20 years, combining this with a job at a funeral director’s, and this has helped to give him a great understanding of the local community and ways to help people living within it, says the Diocese.
He is also chaplain to the Liskeard Royal British Legion.
In his letter to Kevin, the Anglican Bishop of St Germans the Rt Rev Chris Goldsmith wrote: ‘I am told that you have devoted yourself to witnessing the Gospel through word and deed.
’As a postman in Liskeard you were always a positive ambassador for the Kingdom, and as a chaplain to the Liskeard Royal British Legion offering Christian hope to a wide diversity of people.
’As a local worship leader and member of St Martin’s Choir you have served the local Anglican Church for many years, and as a Roman Catholic have positively bridged the ecumenical divide to witness to our Christian need to work together as one body.’
