However, this decision has led to the demotion of projects for Callington, and Saltash.
The Liskerrett decision was made on the grounds that a Lottery grant for the scheme has been approved - but could be at risk if Caradon's £35,000 catalyst-funding is not committed. This sum had been a 2001/2002 payment.
This approval was mirrored by Caradon's commitment to the Saltash Gateway scheme. The promotion of these two schemes up the 'funding' ladder meant the deferral of the phase four stage of Callington's sports facility programme. This news was received unfavourable by Callington councillor, Kathy Pascoe, who stressed that planning for this programme has been going on for some years. She was supported by Tony Nettle and Russell Bartlett - and the success of Callington College gaining sports college status with backing funding was highlighted.
Also deferred was phase two of Saltash leisure centre. As a result Eric Lewis said he would like research carried out into funding possibilities from Private Finance Initiatives. He was also worried about the possible need for higher council bills, but at the expense of reduced services to the public.
