A SPECIAL seat has been dedicated in memory of Susan Norman who died when a landslip destroyed her home in Looe.

Family and friends of the much-missed pensioner gathered for a poignant ceremony on East Looe seafront on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of her death.

The popular 68-year-old, who was well loved in the Looe community, lost her life on March 22, 2013, when her home in Veronica Flats, Sandplace Road, was hit by a landslip during a stormy night of torrential rain.

At the time, her son Matthew Bowden said: 'Mum was the rock of our family. If we needed help she was always there for us. She was one of life's good people.'

On Sunday, the memorial bench seat, made of Cornish granite, was dedicated by celebrant Kate Ward during a moving ceremony attended by around 50 people.

Among those present were son Matthew, daughters Rachel and Helen, and granddaughter Kayleigh and her children Christopher and Elizabeth Rose.

Two floral baskets and other floral tributes had been laid on the bench by friends, along with pictures of Mrs Norman, while on the ground there were containers of purple heather. The baskets were given afterwards to Rachel and Helen.

A family friend said: 'Memories never die. Susan will not be forgotten, remaining in the hearts and minds of the many who have yet to hear why the tragedy occurred.'

Mrs Norman's family have expressed their gratitude to all involved in providing the memorial seat.
