A selection of special guest artists, including the Mercury Prize-nominated Nick Mulvey, Los Angeles rockers CRX (pictured) and Cornish-language singer Gwenno, have been announced for this summer’s Eden Sessions concerts.
Jason Brock will open for Gary Barlow at the Eden Session on June 6. Jason was a finalist on the BBC talent show Let it Shine and he provided vocals for the John Gibbons version of Michael Jackson’s P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing), which amassed more than 45 million streams.
Azekel will join Massive Attack and Young Fathers for their Sessions double-header on June 15 and 16. Azekel is a Nigerian-born singer-songwriter based in East London and released his debut album Our Father earlier this month. He has previously collaborated with Massive Attack on their 2016 Ritual Spirit EP.
Gwenno will be special guest at Ben Howard’s Session on June 30. The Welsh singer-songwriter’s acclaimed second solo album Le Kov (The Place of Memory) is written entirely in Cornish. It’s an exploration of the dream state, the myths of Cornwall and the history of the survival of the increasingly rare language.
Los Angeles rock band CRX, a side-project of The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi, will support Queens of the Stone Age on July 3. They released their debut album, New Skin, which was produced by QOTSA frontman Josh Homme, in 2016.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Nick Mulvey will be special guest at Jack Johnson’s Eden Session. Nick has been nominated for the Mercury Prize twice – once with his band Portico Quartet and then again for his solo debut First Mind. He released his second album Wake Up Now last year and recently shot the video for his song In Your Hands at Eden (https://youtu.be/fhJVRdf8b8k ).
Lanark Artefax and Klein will open for Bjork for the final Eden Session of 2018 on July 7. Lanark Artefax is a Glasgow-based electronic musician who came to prominence following the release of his Glasz EP in 2016. South-London-based musician Klein has been described as one of the UK’s most intriguing producers and performers.
The Eden Sessions are now sold out, with the exception of A Beautiful Day Out at Eden – a bumper one-day festival headlined by the Levellers and also featuring New Model Army, Reef, Dreadzone and Ginger Wildheart. The show takes place on Saturday June 23.
