Saltash United 3

Millbrook 1

PLAYER-manager Mike Doel made a rare start for the Ashes.

And he was soon in the thick of the action, having an effort blocked by Millbrook keeper Richard Rowe after just two minutes.

However, Millbrook were the better side in the first 45 minutes and but for some outstanding saves by James Dungey could have gone in at half time at least four up instead of just a one-goal advantage.

Millbrook went ahead after 18 minutes when Jamie Patterson's cross from the right wing found Karl Curtis who volleyed home.

Paul Baker, Austin and Curtis all saw chances cleared by Dungey.

In first half stoppage time Darren Edwards missed an opportunity to equalise for the Ashes when he shot wide of an unguarded goal.

Whatever was said during the break in the home dressing room certainly worked.

Boss Doel led by example and claimed the equaliser in the 54th minute when he scored with a left foot shot.

After a double substitution was made by Saltash they went into the lead. Mike Preston's cross in the 71st minute found Paul Adcock who headed home and the goal was allowed to stand despite Millbrook's claims for offside.

However, there was nothing wrong with Adcock's second of the game five minutes later when he lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper into the net from some 25 yards out.

Polperro 3

Pensilva 2

BOTH sides had a number of injury worries ahead of this important derby game.

Polperro, with three regulars already out of action, lost keeper Barrie Collings on the day.

With Rob Swinburne injured Pens had to reshuffle for this tough encounter and the central midfield trio of Dave Hicks, Jon Firth and Colin Swinburne who have played excellently in recent weeks was changed.

Swinburne was the only player to stay in the middle, with Hicks going to right back and Firth pushing into left midfield.

Paul Dunbobbin slotted into the centre half spot in place of Rob Swinburne.

And it was the Pens who started the better, going a goal up within five minutes when Firth put Darren Warden through and he sped away to open the scoring, slotted the ball past a bemused Nick Senior who had been volunteered as stand-in goalie.

With Pensilva on a high and Polperro shocked into action, an entertaining, end-to-end first half ensued and shortly before the break veteran playmaker Kevin Faulkner set Nick Southern up for the Polperro equaliser.

The second half continued at a cracking pace and Phil Bain gave the home side the advantage after five minutes.

Faulkner made it 3-1 to Polperro on the hour but Pensilva refused to lie down

At 3-1 down Pens went to three at the back and the introduction of Mike Rendle added some energy to a tired looking Pens.

Tony Rogers got a goal back for Pens although playing in an unaccustomed midfield role he looked out of sorts and needed to be up front where he belongs.

Polperro's goal was under siege for the remainder of the match but with Danny Mason in good form and Senior doing a sterling job between the sticks they held on to all three points.

Pensilva's man of the match went to Jeremy Rendle at the heart of Pens back line who never gave up and showed some of the spirit that was lacking in other departments.

Pens may feel they are safe from relegation, but with Dave Hicks now away for the rest of the season and an injury to Paul Dunbobbin it is a time for each man to stand up and be counted to keep their Premiership status safe.

Both sides turned in gutsy performances in a game allowed to flow by Gunnislake referee Jim Wakem and enjoyed by players, supporters and officials alike.

Tywardreath RBL 1 Dobwalls 7

THE division three pacesetters entertained the Premier League high fliers in what turned out to be a scrappy game, due in the main to a small pitch and gale force wind which made it hard for any flowing football.

Martin Polatch opened the scoring after five minutes, which looked ominous for the home side.

However they battled hard and kept their illustrious opponents at bay for half an hour and could have levelled if it were not for the woodwork when a shot cannoned to safety.

Polatch made it two just before the break when Stewart Dunn chased a through ball from Toms to the by-line and put in a first time cross which the classy striker finished off with a diving header.

Colin Barrett made it three just after the restart and skipper Rob Cole extended the lead shortly afterwards.

In the 70th minute Francis Cater took a quick corner passing to Alex Lindsay who returned the ball to him, his left footed drive found the roof of the net.

Martin Polatch completed his hat-trick when an excellent ball from Cater found Dunn, whose first time flick found the goal hungry target man and he made no mistake.

Goalkeeper Daniel Parsons made it seven from from the penalty spot to complete the visitors tally.

Tywardreath scored a consolation just before the end from a penalty, which Daniel Parsons brilliantly saved in the first instance but the rebound fell to Cobble who was first to react and fired home afrom close range.

Daniel Parsons received the man of the match award for another faultless display of keeping. He has been a revelation since joining the club from Liskeard.

The team were sponsored by Baco Metal Centres.

St Dominic 2

Callington 2

St Dominic were first to attack and Chris Wood went close with a header.

Callington took the lead on ten minutes when Chris Truscott headed home a cross from Andy Snowdon.

Play swung from end to end with Wood hitting the upright, and Richard Trevithick making a fine save from a Snowdon header.

The Saints equalised a couple of minutes from half time through Chris Wood, following a fine run by Jason Gregory.

Callington regained the lead almost immediately when a defensive mix-up allowed Truscott to score his second.

The second half was fairly even with chances going begging at both ends.

The all important goal came a minute from time. when Jason Gregory bundled the ball in, to give the Saints the equaliser and a replay.

Delabole 2

Gunnislake 2

GUNNISLAKE'S recent indifferent form and results continued as they only managed to draw with the division's bottom club.

However, the visitor's cause was not helped by the absence of five first choice players.

The absentees did allow Nathan May to come back into the squad on his return from the Army, while Mark Yeoman started his first game for Gunnislake for over two years, having recently rejoined the club.

Playing down the slope and with a strong wind behind them, Delabole did the greater share of the attacking in the opening half of this match.

But having fallen behind on 20 minutes to a 20 yard Steve Gaggini free kick it was not until the final five minutes of the half that the home side made the breakthrough as the visitors, as a team, defended well.

But two good goals in this period gave Delabole the advantage at the turn around.

Gunnislake were soon back on level terms in the second period thanks to Geoff Turner-Moore after a good run by Yeoman resulted in a penalty.

Both sides searched for a third goal but chances were few and those that were created were wasted.

Cup action awaits Gunnislake this weekend when they make the short trip to Southgate for a divisional cup match, kick off 2pm at Launceston College.

St Newlyn East 2

CALLINGTON'S youngsters completely overwhelmed their opponents in every way and were two goals ahead after five minutes.

Callington were able to give first games to James Hall and Tom McConnachie from the impressive Callington Colts organisation and both got on the score sheet.

Hall hit an impressive hat-trick while Tom's contribution from the left wing showed a lot of promise . He took his goal well, lobbing the keeper who was caught off his line.

Kev Blatchford got his goal scoring back on track with four goals, one a penalty and two with a suspicion of own goals, but forwards claim those and they were his shots.

Bishop, Holloway and Smith got the rest, Holloway enjoying an extended run and getting better for it.

Bodmin Town 4

North Hill 1

NORTH Hill were again badly affected by injuries having six players out facing a very good Bodmin Town side.

Shane Hearn gave Bodmin the lead in the 16th minute but almost immediately Adie Parsons brought an outstanding save from Cornwall county goalkeeper Dave Philp.

However, the dangerous Hearn made it two only for Peter George to reduce the arrears from close in.

Then thanks to some awful defending Hearn got two more to bring his and Bodmin's total to four.

If North Hill are to remain promotion contenders there will have to be considerable improvements in the future.

Liskeard 1

Launceston 0

LEADERS Liskeard could not have anticipated that lowly Launceston would have provided such stiff opposition but the visitors fought every inch of the way and it was only eight minutes from the final whistle when Liskeard finally broke through with a winner from Dave Cole.

Overall Blues keeper Paul Pethick had a quiet afternoon as the visitors were pressed back for much of the game.

Jon Collins twice found himself clear in the first half but on each occasion dragged his shot wide of goal.

Liskeard totally dominated the second period with the Launceston defence under almost constant pressure.

Shaun Johns in the visiting goal handled confidently throughout and made an excellent second half save to deny a Roger Quaintance header.

Liskeard forced a succession of six corners and Dave Waters drove against the foot of a Launceston upright before Liskeard finally broke through as a result of a disputed penalty.

A fierce drive from Adam Billing hit a defender on the hand and although Launceston claimed the player could hardly get out of the way a penalty was given.

Visiting goalkeeper Shaun Johns did well to block Neil Mullis's spot kick but the ball ran to Dave Cole who slotted in the rebound.

"All credit to the Launceston defence," said Blues manager Martin Hodge. "They defended so well."

St Cleer 3

Foxhole 1

WITH a near full strength squad available St Cleer returned to top form with a scintillating 3-1 victory over third placed Foxhole.

"It was an excellent performance," said Saints joint manager Dave Ewing.

"The return of Dave Greening was influential as he hit two goals and was unlucky not to have had a hat trick.

"He has to be among the top strikers in the competition he has such lightning pace."

But it didn't start too brightly for St Cleer when Andy Dingle gave Foxes a two minute lead.

Jim Thompson set up Greening for the equaliser with Johnny Jessop nudging Saints in front before half time.

Greening finished off good work by Wayne Mousella for Saints' third and later was only a whisker away from his hat trick.
