Lanreath........................................2

St Columb......................................0

HAVING won at St Columb it was a confident Lanreath which took the field for the return. L:anreath took the game to their visitors but St Columb played an offside game and Lanreath found it hard to find the final through ball. St Columb gradually got into the game which was by now turning into an end to end encounter but with few chances until the 35th minute when Andy Collins found Simon Fisher free to slot the ball under the keeper.

The second half started the same as the first with Lanreath attacking and with only four minutes gone a pass from Dave Swift found Collins free on the wing who ran at the heart of St Columb's defence and passed to Fisher to score his second.

From then on St Columb pushed everything forward with Lanreath only counter attacking which was not made easier when Fisher was sent off for being verbal towards the Ref. But Lanreath's defence of Nick Collins, Paul Haddock and Dean Hawken outstanding St Columb had a lot of possession but very few chances to score.

Dobwalls .......................................4

Southgate .....................................1

THE young Launceston based side visited Lantoom Park in league action and gave a good display of free flowing football, but they were exposed on several occasions by the bigger and more experienced home side.

Neil Horsley opened the scoring for Dobwalls finishing well after Andy Sheer set hip up with a ball in behind the defence. Shortly after Martin Polatch extended the lead after the keeper could only parry the fierce shot, unluckily for the visitors, the ball spun into the net. The same player made it three on the half hour and at this point the home side seemed to switch off which gave Southgate a chance to get more into the game.

In the second half Southgate would have scored but for the agility of stand in keeper who tipped a vicious shot on to the bar, the rebound came down just on the goal line and an alert Johnny Niblett cleared. They did manage to score towards the end when a misunderstanding between the keeper and a defender left an attacker staring at an open goal when an attempted pass across the goalmouth fell at his feet. Their joy was short lived as just after the restart Dobwalls got a corner that Gordon Moxham met full on with a powerful header to give his side a three goal cushion once more which they held on to until the end.

This was a below par performance from Dobwalls although having played three games in five days it was not surprising. Young Andy Sheer was in fine form using his pace to set up two of the goals and Scott Brown produced another strong performance. But the coveted man of the match award went to keeper Dave Skews who controlled the defence admirably and made some important saves to keep his side in the driving seat. The team was sponsored by Baco Metal centres and the Match Ball by Highwayman at Dobwalls.

Callington....................................3

Godolphin......................................0

HAVING lost the previous week it had important Callington got back to winning ways. Manager Paul Blatchford brought in Mike Vanstone and new signing Michael Ruark and welcomed back Jamie Bradley and Nick Monk.

Callington started brightly and soon got into their stride with Truscott going close on two occasions. On 15 minutes Stuart Taylor brought out a fine save from the visiting keeper. Then with 25 minutes gone Ruark powered his way into the box and was brought down, but Griffiths penalty was saved by the keeper.

Godolphin pressed when they could but were restricted to only half chances. With 30 minutes gone Callington received a free kick 25 yards out which was beautifully despatched by the impressive Vanstone whose left footed shot gave the keeper no chance.

Callington then reached the break at 1-0 and it really should have been more, but they started the second half in an even more determined mood with Pocknell starting to run the midfield and Taylor with acres of space out on the right started to make more chances for the partnership of Ruark and Truscott and it was Truscott who had two great chances but again was thwarted by the keeper. But on the hour Truscott found himself out wide and his pin pointed cross in to the six yard box was turned into the back of the net by a Godolphin defender.

With the second goal in the bag Callington really settled down to the task and played some good football at times. Godolphin did get one clear cut chance but Rowland in the Town goal made a fine save low to his right. From that point with 15 minutes remaining it was all Callington again. The best move of the game was to follow, built from the back, the ball came to Truscott again from a wide position. His cross was met by the impressive young 15 year old Ruark whose powerful header from 12 yards was unstoppable to make the final score 3-0.

Manager Paul Blatchford said it was an improved performance of late with several individuals performing well, including Rowland, young Ruark and Vanstone. he would also like to thank Mark Vanstone who kindly refereed the game at very short notice.

Star-man: Mike Vanstone.

Division Two

High scoring thriller

Godolphin.....................................4

Pelynt..............................................5

YOU wouldn't think that not playing for weeks and having a much depleted squad would be ideal preparation for an important match, but it seems to have worked for Pelynt.

They travelled to Godolphin missing six of their regular team and with Wayne Kelley making his debut in goal. Not surprisingly they soon found themselves under pressure and a goal down when an innocuous looking shot slipped between Kelley's hands and into the net.

Once they found their rhythm the visitors exerted pressure of their own and were rewarded on 35 minutes when a vicious Johns strike beat the home keeper. This appeared to lift the home team a surging run down the right resulted in a goal just before half time.

Playing down the hill in the second half Pelynt looked composed and confident. Indeed, within minutes of the re-start Johns struck again. Seeing the keeper off his line. He hit a lobb from just inside Godolphin's half and saw the ball bounce into the top corner of the net.

Pelynt now appeared in control and were rewarded when Steve Crumpler turned beautifully and lashed his shot past the stranded keeper. They were disappointed to allow the home team to draw level but once again went in front when Paul Boxall finished a strong run with a powerful shot (or was it a cross:), which flew into the top corner. Not content with doing it once Boxall then did exactly the same thing again, this time leaving no doubt that his shot was intentional.

With the visitors now in complete dominance Godolphin began to let their frustration show. Late challenges were followed by disappointment when the linesman's flag denied them a headed goal. Eventually the referee had had enough and reduced them to 10 men. They did manage to scramble a late consolation goal but couldn't deny Pelynt the victory they deserved.

Despite letting in four goals, much credit belongs to Wayne Kelley and the defence of Libby, Hansford, Matt Johns and Chapman., Credit also to Dixon, Bailey and Hearnden who worked tirelessly in midfield.

Pelynt now look to repeat the performance in their remaining games.
