Delabole.........................................2

DobwallS........................................9

TRAVELLING without a recognised goalkeeper, Dobwalls had to use their versatile team manager Dave Skews to fill the spot which he did admirably, although for long spells of this Premier Division game he was left redundant as the play was very one sided.

Delabole managed to keep the rampant visitors out for the first 20 minutes, but a goal from Andros Andrews opened the floodgates as four goals were scored in an eight minute spell with Andy Sheer, Robin Cole and Martin Polatch all finding the target.

The score remained the same until the half time interval. After the break the visitors started where they left off putting the home defence under constant pressure. Martin Polatch completed his hat-trick with two goals shortly after the restart. Johnny Niblett unleashed two fierce shots for Dobwalls.

The home side battled hard and deservedly scored a couple of consolation goals when the Dobwalls defence were caught napping having lost concentration briefly.

Dave Langdon made his debut after transferring from St Cleer and had a fine game. The team all performed well and Martin Polatch collected the man of the match award for another outstanding display. The team were sponsored by Jefferys Estate Agents.

Southgate......................................0

St Dominic.......................................1

ST Dominic entered this premier clash as the only unbeaten team in the division, but they knew that this would be a severe test against a very young and fit Southgate side.

The opening exchanges saw Southgate start the better, but never really tested Trevillick in the St Dominic goal.

As the half progressed, Saints came much more into the game and went close with Snowdon and Horsley both shooting just wide.

After a goalless first half both sides knew this match could be won by the odd goal and both defences were very solid. St Dominic increased the tempo, were much more positive in attack and looked better defensively, and it was no real surprise when they scored what happened to be the only goal of the game.

A long through ball from Cradick was lifted over the advancing keeper by Horsley from a wide angle and Andy Snowdon made sure from close range.

From this point onwards Southgate tried in vain to breakdown an impressive St Dominic defence, in doing so left many more holes in their rearguard. On several occasions Saints went close, Craig Pote twice, Jason Gregory and Snowdon all had good chances, but the one goal was enough to secure another three points in what is turning out to be a magnificent opening to this season.

A Man of the Match would be hard to pick as everyone contributed to an outstanding display, but James Allmett and Gareth Wenmoth were particularly impressive.

Mevagissey.....................................0

Callington Town.......................0

CALLINGTON went into this game full of confidence having scored 13 goals in their last two league games. But on a very wet pitch and driving rain all afternoon, it was always going to be difficult for them to play their normal passing game.

However Callington were the first side to settle and controlled the game from start to finish as Mevagissey sat deep and defended as if a draw would be good enough for them.

Chances came and went for Callington. Tilbury had the first with fine effort which just cleared the bar. Truscott and Rowsell went close.

Mevagissey did create one chance in the game which brought out a fine save from Rowlands in the Town goal.

The second period started in the same manor which Brooks and Tilbury dominating midfield, feeding Truscott and Rowsell up front. But again good defending from Mevagissey kept Callington out.

Manager Paul Blatchford was full of praise for the way his side performed, but was disappointed as were his players that they didn't take three points.

Star Man Steve Brooks.

Division Two

Andrew settles it

St Cleer...........................................3

Gerrans............................................1

SAINTS welcomed their old adversaries to the Sports Field on Saturday seeking to consign the previous week's performance to the dustbin. St Cleer started well but nervously on a pitch made heavy by the morning downpour, and were soon probing at the visitors defence, while at the other end restricting Gerrans forward to long range efforts.

After going close on a couple of occasions the breakthrough came midway through the half when a cross from Harvey was lobbed in by Shepherd over the advancing keeper through a crowded six yard box. The lead lasted less than 10 minutes before a lapse of concentration allowed Gerrans room to get a shot on target which found it's mark. Just before the break after a considerable amount of home pressure, Taylor picked up the ball on the edge of the area and his accurate shot found the top corner with the keeper well beaten.

Two-one down at the break Gerrans increased the pressure in the second period but we held by a combination of good defensive work and goalkeeping while Saints created various chances of their own. It was always a case of when another goal was going to come rather than if, although spectators were treated to an end to end game where either team could have found the net, but with time running out a precision pass from Coleflax in to the path of Andrew saw the ball dispatched into the back of the visitors net with aplomb to settle the issue and give all three points to the home side.

Division One

Deserved point

ST MAWES..........................................2

PENSILVA...........................................2

PENSILVA made the long trip to St Mawes and came away with a deserved point. Playing downhill in the first half Pens should have been four or five up but only led by Page's solitary strike. In the second half home team pressure enabled St Mawes to take the lead only for Page to break through late on to equalise.

Division Three

Borough hit back

St Stephens Borough...............3

Foxhole...........................................3

ST Stephens Borough salvaged a point by coming back from two goals down in the second half although they should have been well in front after the first 30 minutes of the game.

As it was they had only a solitary effort from Andrew Stonely to show for their domination with chances going begging and the Foxhole keeper bringing off several excellent saves.

With the all important second goal not coming Foxhole grew in confidence and turned the game on its head in the last ten minutes of the half as goals from Swift and Coram saw them end the half 2-1 ahead.

There still should have been enough positive things in the half for Borough to start the second half with confidence but this seemed to be missing and all seemed to be up for Borough as Wakeham put Foxhole 3-1 ahead.

However, Borough have shown before that they have the character to come from behind and a goal from the penalty spot from Aaron West gave them hope.

With time slipping away centre-half Nick Yeo powered home a header to give Borough a share of the points which was the least they deserved.

All credit to Foxhole who gave everything they had for the 90 minutes showing a great team work ethic. Borough will do well to learn from this and realise that they have to earn the right to play their football. The only way they will get results is to work as hard as the other team.

Division Four

Polperro Reserves...................4

Bodmin Town.................................1

POLPERRO went into this game knowing that they would have to be at their best against previously unbeaten Bodmin, who had only conceded three goals all season and that was exactly what they produced. Polperro were on the attack from the kick off, with the movement of Matt King and Mark Pengelly causing problems for the visitors' defence.

A right wing move on 20 minutes saw Polperro take the lead when Jordan Whaley cut inside two defenders before curling a brilliant effort into the corner of the net. This sparked the visitors into action and a spell of sustained pressure saw them equalise 10 minutes later. However, Polperro were not going to sit back and inspired by the experience of Stuart Fisher in midfield, took the game to the visitors with a string of attacking moves. Fisher gave the home side a deserved half time lead when he dummied the keeper twice before slotting home,

Bodmin began the second half, as expected, with some strong challenges and probing runs, but Polperro were not to be intimidated and gave as good as they got. A Tony Gosling corner after an hour caused problems for the Bodmin defence and Stuart Fisher headed in Polperro's third goal. Fisher missed out on the chance of a hat-trick, however, when the Bodmin keeper produced a brilliant penalty save to deny him.

Polperro were by now well on top and it was no surprise when substitute Jon Pengelly added their fourth with a low shot in the closing stages, to give them a well deserved victory.

This was an excellent all round display which showed Polperro's character and team spirit against a very good Bodmin Town side.

Polperro will be especially pleased with the performance of the back line of keeper Shane Eastley, Martin Hamlet, Jamie Rich, Jordan Whaley and Man of the Match Matt Pengelly.
