Sticker..............................................1

St Dominic.......................................7

ST Dominic started this K.O. Cup encounter in determined mood against a Sticker side from Division Three looking for an upset.

Sticker indeed played the better football in the opening half an hour, and had it not been for Trevithick in the St Dominic goal they could have led at half time.

But from his fine saves St Dominic found inspiration and took the lead on the stroke of half time through an acrobatic overhead from Chris Wood.

Saints did not deserve the half time lead and after 10 minutes of the second half Sticker missed two easy chances and were made to pay for them.

Chris Wood made it 2-0 with a fine solo goal, and then turned provider for Neal Horsley to make it 3-0. Andy Snowdon scored with almost his first touch after a substitution and Wood made it 5-0 with a penalty after good work by Horsley.

Sticker though never gave up and scored after a poor defensive mistake, but St Dominic soon made it six with Woods fourth of the game from a Wenmoth through ball and Horsley wrapped things up with his second and St Dominic's seventh on the stroke of time.

This was not the best St Dominic can play and had Sticker taken their chances this could have been very different.

LANREATH.........................................3

POLPERRO.........................................2

WITH Matt Barton and Paul Haddock out through injury Lanreath knew they would be up against it in this local derby, and it was Polperro playing with the wind who had most of the play in the first half. It was only desperate defending and some excellent goalkeeping by Rodney Stokes which kept it goalless at half time.

With the wind behind them in the second half, Lanreath took the lead after five minutes with Jim Moyhan rounding the keeper into the open net. Ten minutes later with almost the same move Moynan tried to round the keeper but was brought down in the box. Andy Collings converted the following penalty.

It was Collins turn to round the Polperro keeper for Lanreath's third goal. With 20 minutes left, Polperro had nothing to loose and pushed forward which produced dividends when Kevin Faulkner scored from a corner. Still pushing forward Polperro got a free kick just inside the Lanreath box. Collecting the pass Andy Garner hit the net with a fine shot from 12 yards. From then on it was all Polperro but Lanreath just managed to hang on and go into the next round of the knock out cup.

Bodmin Town.................................4

Tideford..........................................2

POLYNE Garage sponsored Tideford were relieved this was a game in a cup competition which neither side has a realistic chance of winning. Having been 2-0 up but finally losing 4-2 will hopefully have resulted in a sharp lesson to the players, in preparation for the league campaign.

Tideford's first was perhaps a little fortunate when play was allowed to continue following a challenge in the air with the subsequent through ball being well converted by Steve Howells.

There was nothing wrong with the second however when Glen Tookey seized on a free ball and stuck it home. Further chances fell to a number of Tideford players, with the only result being the loss of another football by the home club in the dense undergrowth a long way behind the goal. To make matters worse, a needless penalty was given away in the dying minutes of the first half to give Bodmin a lifeline.

Things were even worse when Bodmin equalised within a minute of the restart. The first attack was not cleared, neither was the resulting corner, and an unchallenged glancing header into the corner gave Bodmin their second.

The score stayed this way for a period until two goals in quick succession gave a two goal margin to Bodmin. The view from the line may be unfair to the Bodmin players who scored but the Tideford management would bet a tenner that neither player could repeat his goal given another three chances. The first, a shot from outside the box, fell into that one metre of space between the crossbar and the Tideford keeper who was not far off his line, and the second a glancing header into the top corner from a long way out following a long free kick, but they all count.

In fairness to the Tideford players, for the final 15 minutes, they did everything except stick the ball in the back of the net. Unlike boxing, there are no points decisions and the goals have to be scored, which they were not, despite many chances.

St Columb Minor.......................10

St Cleer............................................0

THIS acutely embarrassing result for St Cleer in the Duchy KO Cup at the hands of premiership side St Columb came as a result of the visitors playing well below their best and the home sides forwards in devastating form in front of goal.

Although settling quickly, Saints went behind early when a pass split the defence and was despatched easily into the back of the goal. The second came not long afterwards when a wicked bounce in front of the keeper completely changed the direction of the ball past the St Cleer keeper. Before the break they went further behind when possession was lost further up the pitch and the speed of the counter attacker caught everyone by surprise and finished with a lob over the advancing keeper

3-0 down at the break, Saints came out with more purpose at the beginning of the half putting together their best move of the game within the first five minutes, but after it broke down the ball was immediately moved back up field where a foul gave the home team a freekick outside of the box, which was expertly despatched in to the top corner. A penalty soon afterwards made the score 5-0 and good movement especially up front continually added further scores as the half went on, with the home forwards hardly ever missing the target.

Although Saints battled until the end they came up against a team whose forwards were on top of their game and showed no mercy in front of goal. St Cleer must learn from this result and regroup in order to quickly get themselves back on track for the rest of the season.

Pelynt...............................................3

St Stephens Borough...............3

ST Stephens Borough gained a creditable draw away to second division Pelynt in a game spoilt by a strong wind and a pitch recently cut and still showing tractor marks and covered in grass cuttings.

With players missing Borough took the opportunity to give first starts of the the season to Phil Bennett, Steve Brown, Tim Lyle, Dave South and Kevin Squires.

Playing against the wind Borough took the lead when a long ball from Phil Bennett picked out Phil Screech and he made no mistake. Pelynt equalised when Borough keeper Gary Homer played a short goal kick to Kevin Squires. Squires waited for the ball to clear the penalty area but a lurking home forward didn't and rifled the ball past Homer.

The goal should not have stood but with the referee unable to see the penalty area lines he allowed it to stand.

Borough regained the lead when Tim Lyle shot past a startled Pelynt keeper from outside of the box, however the home side again equalised on the stroke of half-time with the goal of the game, a rocket.

With the wind in their favour for the second half Borough will feel they should have gone on to win. However with two changes at the interval - Aaron West replacing Karl Arrowsmith and Andy Knight replacing Phil Bennett and a third soon into the half, Paul Stoneman for Phil Screech. Borough lack cohesion and were unable to take advantage of the elements.

It was the home side who took the lead in the closing stages of the half and Borough were up against it.

They had a golden opportunity when they were awarded a penalty but with the ref insisted that the ball be placed in the spot which was a hole in the penalty box. The odds appeared against the taker, Aaron West. However, after he had done well to score what seemed the equaliser, the ref spotted some encroaching from the home side and insisted the kick be retaken. This time the keeper made the save and West was unlucky to place the rebound wide.

However, the young midfielder was to have the last laugh as, with time running out, he hit an unstoppable free kick passed a stationary goalie and earnt Borough the replay which was the least they deserved.

NEWMOOR.........................................0

THE Lantoom Park side bounced back after last week's reverse against Godolphin with an emphatic win against their clay pit country rivals.

In the first half the home side who had a near gale force wind at their backs squandered several clear cut chances to open their account. At least three chances were skied over the bar from close range and a thunderous drive from long range from Simon Dann smashed against the bar.

After the break Dobwalls began to knock the ball around and soon took the lead, Martin Polatch beat a couple of defenders and curled a shot into the top corner of the net. Five minutes later a defensive error let in young Andy Sheer who calmly placed the ball past the advancing keeper to extend the lead.

On the hour the visiting keeper picked up the ball from a throw in to concede a free kick inside the box. This resulted in Dobwalls extending the lead, the ball was passed to Martin Polatch who backheeled the ball across the box for skipper Rob Cole to tap home.

Man of the Match Andy Sheer completed the scoring with fifteen minutes to go with another well taken goal. He has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few weeks and has cemented his place in the side forming a lethal partnership with Martin Polatch.

He thought he had completed his hat trick near the end when his shot glanced off the keeper and was goalward bound only to see it cleared off the line. The whole side were in good form but young Sheer again proved to be the teams trump card on the day. The game ended on a sour note when a player from both side was dismissed for a minor scuffle.

PENSILVA...........................................5

LANIVET.............................................0

PENSILVA entertained Lanivet in a cup match on this windy, but dry Saturday afternoon.

The first 20 minutes saw good football from both sides but it was Pensilva who took the lead when Rob Swinbourne pinpointed Darren Warden who slotted the ball past the keeper.

Pensilva's second came from Jamie Pages right foot and Johnny Firth added to the tally just before the half time whistle. Manager Matt Hogan's team talk consisted of "the games not won yet especially in this wind" and it was on that note that Pens went back out onto the pitch still focused.

It was Johnny Frith again that scored the fourth goal with a piercing left foot and minutes later Colin Wilson made a threatening run through the defence but couldn't find the open goal. However, 'Sergeant' Wilson redeemed himself five minutes later with a left foot half volley which left the keeper standing and a hole in the net. Another clean sheet for 'Reverend' Ritchie and the back four rounded off an excellent performance by Pensilva.

Impressive debut

Polperro Reserves...................6

Tintagel Reserves....................1

POLPERRO went into this game needing a victory to move up the league table and despite losing several players to the first team, fielded a strong side on an excellent Killigarth pitch. The home side took an early lead through Jon Pengelly's shot across the keeper, but despite sustained pressure were unable to add to their lead for 25 minutes. A second goal from Matt King was followed by a rare set-piece goal when Martin Hamlet's corner was flicked on by Matt Pengelly for Del Palfrey to fire home at the back post. Tintagel pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after a goal line handball by Palfrey just before half time. This seemed to sparked Polperro into action and they began the second half as they ended the first, camped in the opposition half. Del Palfrey scored the fourth with a fine overhead effort before Jon Pengelly got his second when he looped a header over the advancing keeper.

As the game went on, play became more scrappy, with Polperro trying to play football but being thwarted by a combination of good goalkeeping, desperate defending and the woodwork. However, the home side saved their best goal for last, when Richard Chapman celebrated his latest comeback with a deft finish following a good one-two with Jordan Whaley.

Overall, a good team performance with the highlights being the impressive debut of substitute Marcus Bussell, and the performances of Rob Billsborough Jamie Rich. The man of the match Jordan Whaley playing out of position at right back.
