SOUTH East Cornwall just missed out on a White Christmas but with the weather looking set for a white New Year's Eve police had a message for everyone contemplating a night of celebration.
'Take care on the roads'.
With the cold snap set to continue, although only light snow is forecast for today (Friday) and tomorrow Saturday, freezing fog and very heavy frost will make roads treacherous and driving conditions hazardous.
So far, however, drivers are being very careful and Bodmin Traffic police report only a few minor accidents on icy roads.
While much of the rest of the country saw some snow on Christmas Day, South East Cornwall had to wait until early on Wednesday for the first real snow of the year.
By morning most of the towns and villages woke up to find a light sprinkling of snow and higher moorland areas were covered.
Early morning driving conditions were particularly difficult in Callington, Pensilva, Gunnislake and the Minions area although because drivers were taking extreme care there were few accidents. The roads were quiet anyway.
The county had also taken the precaution to grit most of the major roads in the region.
