THIS week saw the Preliminary and First Round of the popular 5-a-side knockout Competition. Although not all matches were played, those that were produced one or two surprises, as usual. Cheesewringers (Div IV) extinguished Marquees (Div II), winning by a margin of 12 pins. Thrashers A (Div IV) took out Sandpipers B (Div II) by eight pins and Circles (Div III) beat Ditchers B (Div II) by only one pin.

The highest score of the week was seen at The Barley Sheaf, Liskeard, where Rebels B beat Thrashers B with a score of 347 pins, winning by a margin of 45 pins.

Rebels A also scored well in their Preliminary round match against Jets, with 341 against 329. Crickets gained a good score with 337 in their match against Flyers B at Linkinhorne, with a superb 82 from captain, Geoff Craven.

Barley Oats Pensilva also scored well with 346 pins against Oddballs A, assisted greatly but Zoe Raper and Lynda Jeffery, each totally 80 pins apiece and beating the highest ladies score so far for competitions. Finally Millers won with a total pinfall of 334 against Tri-ards at Treburley.
