THIS week saw the preliminary round of the 8 a-Side Knockout Cup. One or two surprises were in store, with Marquees (Div II) beating Legion Misfits (Div I) in a high-scoring match at Duloe, with only five pins separating the two and despite a superb score of 86 from Misfits captain, Colin Penwarden. Victorians (Div IV) scored well against their alley-mates, Clementines (Div III), winning by a margin of 80 pins and at Pensilva, Millers (Div III) beat Hotshots (Div I) by 6 pins.

Crickets (Div I) had a terrific score of 555 pins in their match against Jets (Div I) at Millendreath, helped by a 79 from captain, Geoff Craven, although Jets were not disgraced, scoring 504 themselves. Londoners (Div I) scored well to beat visiting Seccombes (Div II) and LBC Ditchers (Div II) travelled to Pensilva where they were unable to match Rebels (Div I) who scored 552 pins including an 86 from anchor man Ken Jeffery. In a fairly high-scoring match at Duloe, the home side, Terrier (Div I) beat Madhatters (Div III). Oddballs (Div II) travelled to Treburley, where they beat Burley Booties (Div II) and also at Treburley, Demons (Div III) beat Treburley Growlers (Div III) but were no match for the visitors, who won by 34 pins, including a superb 76 form Mary Bickle. At Dobson's, Circles (Div III) won against visiting Socialites and Legionaires (Div II) beat Social Slammers (Div IV) at home by 40 pins. Finally Marketeers (Div II) travelled to Minions, winning against the hosts, Cheesewringers (Div IV) by a margin of 60 pins.

In an outstanding League match, Division II, LBC Ditchers took all six points against Four x Fours, assisted by an 80 from Frances Turner, which included an 18 spare. In Division III, Madhatters and Clementines played their outstanding match from Week I. Clementines were 14 pins up at half-time, but were unable to match the home side in the second half and Madhatters finally won 4-2, putting them into third place in the table. Also in Division III, Tri-ard travelled to Morval, where they managed to take all six points in their match against Snooty Foxes. Finally a draw was seen at St Keyne when Division IV, Social Slammers took on Warriors, each team gaining a valuable three points.
