I READ in last week's Cornish Times of the disappointing news that the company planning to build the so-called Bubble development at Maudlin Farm have pulled out. Oh what a surprise. Now don't get me wrong. I am all for protecting and keeping historic buildings and places of interest. However, does the Toll House really come under either one of the aforementioned headings. I personally do not think so. Perhaps the same people wishing to keep this derelict, vandalised, too rundown to even look around building, are the same people moaning about youngsters wandering around the town looking for amusement. Perhaps it is the same people wishing to keep the Toll House who also moan about why Liskeard is no longer a thriving market town attracting visitors near and far. I believe we should all look to the future of our town and realise a little sacrifice here and there could bring visitors, jobs and money to all the local traders and fun, yes fun, and enjoyment to families within our community. We are now left with a rundown building and some waste land which will continue to cost taxpayers money to maintain while we wait for another proposal for Maudlin Farm. Please let us not be shortsighted again.
