A SPAR shop has raised hundreds of pounds for charity through a fun day. The SPAR Callington team raised £300 for the British Heart Foundation with the event. Members of the local community were invited to take part in the celebrations at the store by baking cakes for the fun day and bringing their children along to take part in a colouring competition. The event celebrated the 21st birthday of Gilletts Callington Limited, owners of SPAR Callington and 36 other stores in the area. Together, the Gilletts' stores raised an impressive total of £1,500 for the charity. 'I was delighted about the amount of money we managed to raise; it's a real indicator of the generous spirit of the Callington community and just shows that you can have fun and raise cash for charity,' said Steve Collings, store manager at SPAR Callington. 'Our staff and customers really enjoyed themselves and it was a great opportunity for us to get together.' Mark Gillett, from Gillett Callington Limited, said: 'We'd like to say a big thank you to all the staff at SPAR Callington, who helped to raise such a fantastic sum of money as part of the 21st birthday celebrations. We're really pleased that the local community was able to gather together while raising money for such a worthwhile cause as the BHF.' SPAR supported the British Heart Foundation last year by sponsoring more than 100 of their 'Hearts First Walks'. The £1,500 raised by Gilletts SPAR stores, will go to fund life-saving research, aiming to make a difference to the 2.6million people affected by heart and circulatory disease in the UK.
