A teenage dream to do a parachute jump has become a reality more than 30 years later for a Liskeard woman who will be taking to the skies for charity. Sheila Powell, 52, who is the accounts manager at The Cornish Times, will be taking part in a tandem skydive at Dunkeswell Airfield from a height of 15,000ft, on Sunday, April 27. Sheila is dedicating her skydive to the memories of her father Frank Willcocks of Liskeard, who died aged 77 from cancer in March, and her cousin, Gemma Kerswell of Hatt, who lost her fight against cancer in her early thirties, just under two years ago. The skydive was a Christmas present from Sheila's children, Hannah, Tim and Tom, and her partner Alan, and she will be fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support and St Luke's Hospice. 'I have wanted to do a parachute jump ever since I was 19 and a student at Plymouth Polytechnic where I joined the parachute club,' said Sheila. 'I did all the training but I never got around to it, so the present from my family was an amazing surprise. 'I decided I wanted my skydive to mean something, so I am looking forward to doing it for two special people. I am not at all nervous, just excited, but that might change when I actually get into the plane!'
