A NEW memorial, honouring thousands who lost their lives in service to their country, includes the names of a number of people from Cornwall. The memorial, which is situated at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, is a tribute to the members of the UK armed forces who have been killed on duty or as a result of terrorist action, and will be open to the public from Monday. Around 49 of the names engraved on the wall are from Cornwall. Richard Mayor, from Liskeard, is one of the servicemen to be featured on the wall. He served with the 300 Plymouth Troop 131 independent commando squadron, and died on exercise in Kenya in 1987. Others from the area are Leonard Collings, from Lostwithiel, Tony Godden, from Saltash, and David Francis Roue and Malcom White, both from Torpoint.
