POLICE are appealing for anyone with information to come forward after an accident left a driver trapped in her car.

Vet Hannah Parker-Lobban, who lives locally, said she was travelling through the narrow lane between Upton Cross and Minions at around 7.15pm on Saturday when she saw a dark blue V-reg Land Rover Discovery approaching her at speed.

'I slowed down and pulled right into the hedge but he kept on coming,' said Hannah, 31. 'I was actually stationary and he was almost on top of me before he hit his brakes and swerved into the bank on his side. He bounced off and slammed into me with such force that he bounced back, hit the bank again and shot through the gap.'

The mother-of-one said she was badly shaken but luckily not hurt. However, her door was so badly damaged she was unable to open it and was trapped. A few minutes later, Andrew and Mark Davy, from Rilla Mill, came upon her from the Minions direction, and were able to force open the door to release her. They told her they had seen the Land Rover at Minions.

Hannah, who described the driver as being in his 40s with dark scruffy hair, said her insurance company is now assessing the damage to her Ford Fiesta.

'Because the other driver didn't stop, I have lost my no claims bonus and will have to pay the excess,' she said. 'What has really upset me though is the fact that this man drove off without knowing if I was alive or dead and he must have seen the baby shades on the rear windows. Thank goodness my 18-month-old wasn't in the car. I am just concerned he could do this again to someone else with more serious consequences.'

A resident in Rilla Mill phoned the police to report that a damaged Land Rover had been driven through the village on three wheels.
