MAYOR Christina Whitty popped up at Liskeard Show alongside town councillors to encourage people to use ‘seagull-proof bags’.
The reinforced bags cost £3.50 and can be re-used over and over again.
The strong bags hold around three full bin bags’ worth of household waste, and protect the rubbish from attack by seagulls or other animals.
Bags are available from the Cornwall Council One Stop Shop at Luxstowe House.
Cornwall Councillor for West Liskeard and Dobwalls Jane Pascoe is so keen that residents use the seagull-proof bags, she has offered to deliver them to households in her ward.
The town council is urging residents who don’t use the bags to either place their refuse in dustbins or to cover it up with blankets when they put it out on bin days.
The council is asking residents not to leave out rubbish in bags overnight.
