Councillor Brian Carter proposed that Saltash Scouts should deliver the next two issues of the Town Messenger on a trial basis. This was agreed at the civic amenities committee meeting. Meanwhile, at the 2nd Saltash Scout Group's annual meeting at Latchbrook – a proposed new headquarters – treasurer Tony Dell presented accounts showing a credit of £66,537.73. Most of this will be used to pay for an extension at Latchbrook. Group Scout leader Len Maddock gave a report of the group's activities over the past year and Maureen Carvell and Bernard Scott gave reports on their sections. Chairman John White, vice chairman Gerald Nicholson and treasurer Tony Dell were re-elected. The group is still unable to fill the secretary's position. Four parents – Sandra Chitty, Mandy Paul, Mark Fox and Richard Shotton – volunteered to serve on the committee, along with Steve Croucher, who was unable to attend the meeting. District Commissioner Maureen Carvell said the Beaver colony had re-formed. She also congratulated the group on its 70th birthday.
