Schools across the area were forced to close as snow and ice hit. Children from South East Cornwall were affected after everything from icy roads to heating failure led to nine schools in the Duchy being closed on Wednesday and at least 19 staying shut yesterday. Lanreath CE Primary School was closed on both days because of a problem with the heating. Cardinham School was also affected on both days because of dangerous snow and ice on surrounding roads. Dangerous road conditions also lead to the closure of Doubletrees School at St Blazey, which educates children from South East Cornwall, on Wednesday. On Thursday, Blisland Primary School could not open because of the weather conditions. Thursday's weather also meant that buses were sent out an hour late to take children to Fowey Community College and the Richard Lander School in Truro. Elsewhere in the county, Wednesday saw problems with the gas supply and heating failure cause the closure of Poltair Community School and Sports College in St Austell. Heating problems were also the reason behind the closure of Chacewater Primary School in Truro. Closed because of snow and ice on the same day were Roche Primary School, St Austell, St Wenn Primary School, near Bodmin, Pencalenick School at St Clements, Truro, and the Roseland Community School at Tregony, Truro. Thursday's closures included St Hilary School, Penzance, Lanivet Primary School, Trythall CP School, near Penzance, Port Isaac Primary School, Nancledra School, Penzance, and St Breward Primary, Bodmin.
