Churches in a parish have taken a slightly different approach to harvest this year as the usual celebrations are unable to take place.

Displays outside the churches of St Lalluwy in Menheniot and St Mary’s in Merrymeet give thanks for the harvest, and the congregation is being encouraged to donate to the Liskeard and Looe Foodbank.

At Merrymeet, the scarecrow-themed display has been created by Ryan and Sarah Bradbeer, and leads to prayer stations within the church.

At Menheniot, a trail of thanksgiving follows the words of the hymn “Autumn Days” and the displays along the path were created by church members Ruth James, Jennie Harrison, Fliss Sneyd and Lyn Colborn.

“A huge thank you to Menheniot Playgroup for their decorated boots and shoes along the trail, depicting the hymn,” said Ruth James.

“The community is invited to follow the trail to give their own thanks for our food. Both churches have a collection point for the Foodbank, which is so needed during these difficult times.”

A celebration of harvest took place via Zoom for all the six churches in the cluster, given by the Rev. Becca Bell.

Menheniot Church is open for a 10am service on Wednesday mornings, and on Saturday afternoons from 2pm- 4pm for private prayer.

Merrymeet is open on Monday mornings from 10am–12 noon and Thursday afternoons from 2-4pm for private prayer.

Services for Merrymeet are resuming but will be held at St Ive Church, due to a lack of space at Merrymeet Church for social distancing.
