ONE of the longest-established brass bands in Cornwall is celebrating continued success within the brass band movement.
Saltash Town Band, which was first established over 100 years ago, and have had numerous outstanding successes in brass band championships over many years have been delighted to celebrate winning fourth place in the West of England Brass Band Association (WEBBA) regional contest held in Cheltenham this month.
A band spokesman said: “This was the band’s first competition in two years due to COVID. There have been so many challenges and times when we thought we would not make it.
“We are so pleased with our result of 4th out of 11 bands; we took 30 players on the stage, all of which were from our own registered players and no players borrowed from other bands.
“On our return home from a very tiring journey and contest, the Saltash Town Band learned that they had also proudly won the annual ‘Best Performance Cup’ presented by the Mayor of Saltash Councillor Pete Samuels; of which the band is most grateful, this additional award put the icing on the cake for all the dedicated members.
“I would like to thank all the band members and supporters for all their dedication, hard work, and outstanding performances, which is clearly paying off!”
Saltash Town Band is still desperately looking for a permanent band room or some land to erect premises that will accommodate the band and all the various instruments and equipment that makes up the unit, and would appreciate any offers for consideration.
