Team in disabled games
MEMBERS of the Saltash Disabled Club went to compete for the South West at the Rotary Disabled Games. A total of 12 teams from across the country took part in Coventry.
Teams could compete in basketball, bowls, archery, darts, table tennis, snooker, swimming, shooting, ladies and men's weightlifting, and boccia (a game similar to bowls). They could also compete in obstacle and pit stop events, in which the South West reached the semi-final.
One of the stars of the games was 11-year-old David Wetheral.
David, from Torpoint, who suffers from a condition which effects all his joints, won the junior section in his specialised event - table tennis.
As a result, David has been selected for the all-England trials. This is the first time he had competed in the games, having only taken up the sport in June. The bus taking competitors to the games was seen off by Rotary president of Saltash, Alan Skinner.
