Ashes build for future
SALTASH United FC have started planning and building for the future by forging links with Saltash Youth soccer club.
It was announced by United spokeswoman Marian Gammage that work is in progress for the youth set-ups of Saltash United Juniors and Saltash Youth to come under the wing of the senior side.
It is hoped that this will enable young players to take a route into adult football, helping them eventually to take part in both the East Cornwall Premier League and the Carlsberg South Western League.
Players from the Carlsberg and East Cornwall leagues could also take coaching sessions with the youngsters in the town.
Mrs Gammage added that all three communities are keen to foster the working relationship which will benefit the youth of Saltash and the surrounding area.
The Ashes, like many teams in the Westcountry, are looking for youth teams to supply their first team squad, and in creating the links, Saltash will have 20 youth sides in the club.
United have contacted the FA and chief executive Adam Crozier has replied saying that an FA representative will be at the next meeting, in middle to late September.
The club have also spoken to the Cornwall County FA, to get their support on the project.
It is hoped that before first and second team games at Kimberley Stadium, youth matches will be played, giving supporters the chance to watch the development of the younger players.
