Band tour a big hit

SALTASH Town Band has just returned from a tour of Austria where the band was based in Huttau near Salzburg.

The band gave three concerts as well as taking tours around a glacier, a salt mine and viewing, from the beautiful lakeside village of Berchtesgaden, the infamous 'Eagles Nest', favoured by Hitler for his holidays.

The concert at Halstatt was performed to a packed audience, with so many packing into the Music Pavilion that it became standing room only. The band played Cornish pieces, as well as popular arrangements and several encores were demanded before they could leave the stage.

The band's next venture is competing in national finals in Preston in September. The event will cost them £3,500 in travel and accommodation so private sponsorship is being sought. The band will also be playing all day in Fore Street, Saltash, on September 8 to raise funds for the trip.

Several companies and private donors have given money but further sponsors are needed. Ring Mike Clarke on (01752) 849419 if you can help in any way.
