First duathon in town

CARADON Swimming Club and Tamar Trotters staged their first duathon in Saltash, starting with a swim in the Saltash Leisure Centre pool, followed by a run around Saltash and back to the Warfelton sports field.

The junior section featured a 200m swim and a 2km run, and the senior event had a 500m swim and a 5km run. The day also involved a relay event, with teams made up of one runner and one swimmer.

Nearly 100 people took part, with ages ranging from 10 to 60, with some just completing either the swim or the walk.

Mayor Eve Storey, along with her husband Jim, presented the awards to the competitors, having previously watched the swimming.

The two organisers of the event, David Smith, of Caradon Swimming Club, and Colin Bunting, from the running club, said they were surprised and pleased that the event had gone so well and had attracted a large amount of competitors.
