Groups ask for
community cash
SALTASH Partnership met at Saltash Guildhall, when Ron Freeman, vice-chairman, spoke on community chest funding.
Members proposed the following requests: K2 youth centre (£500), Wesley Youth for improvements to the toilets and security (£500), Tamar canoeing association for equipment (£500), Burraton Players (£500), Caradon gig club for splash tops bearing the Saltash logo (£150), and Saltash Wesley club towards a non-alcoholic cocktail machine (£80).
Project officer Louise Cox reported on the website, and said new pages are in progress for the Celtic cross project and the Ashtorre centre.
A marketing strategy and action plan have been completed for the heritage trail. Blue badge guides and people involved in the tourism industry will be invited to sample the trail on March 31 between 2pm and 4pm, while a local history group will also be invited from Keyham and St Budeaux.
Heritage trail phase two preparations are in hand for submission for an Arts Lottery bid in conjunction with a group at Keyham through Groundwork Trust.
Ron Freeman as the chairman of Saltash Heritage asked the Partnership not to call the proposed centre at the railway station for Brunel exhibits the 'Brunel Heritage Centre' as this would cause confusion with the 'Saltash Heritage Museum'.
Appeal for
dog walkers
A national charity is appealing for help from people in the Saltash area who are willing to help walk a dog.
The Cinnamon Trust helps elderly and terminally ill people and their pets stay together as long as they can with a network of volunteers.
At the moment, they are looking for a rota of people to help an elderly lady who is no longer able to walk her dog because of failing health, and is frightened that she might lose her pet.
The trust does not have enough volunteers who are close to her and are hoping some will come forward.
If you can help for an hour or two a week, the trust would like to hear from you.
If you can help with this, contact the Cinnamon Trust for an application form on 01736 757900, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Procession
planned
CHURCHES Together in Saltash are planning a united act of Worship for Good Friday, April 13.
The service, which will take place in two churches, will begin with ministry of the word in Saltash Wesley Church at 9 am.
The Passion story will be read and the preacher will be the new Archdeacon of Bodmin, the Ven Clive Cohen.
A procession will then be led down Fore Street by a large cross from Burraton Methodist Church. The procession will stop briefly for a part of the Passion story, before arriving at St Nicholas and St Faith's. There, the group will join together in prayer, before sharing the sacrament of holy communion. The joint worship aims to be finished by 10.40 am.
There will then be a chance to join in an act of worship in Saltash Baptist Church at 11 am.
