THE annual meeting of Saltash Regatta is to be held on January 25 at 7.30pm at Saltash Guildhall.

Regatta president, Mr S Harley, said members of the public are welcome to attend. This year's regatta is to be held on July 7 and 8.

Models sought

for a hair show

A TOTAL of 35 students at Saltash college will be piercing ears to gain a certificate in ear-piercing.

The beauty therapy students will be learning their craft safely and hygienically as part of their NVQ levels 2 and 3 beauty therapy and hairdressing courses at the college. Each student has to provide her own model for the practical assessment.

Models, both male and female, are desperately being sought by the college for a hair show at the China Fleet club on February 16. The show is a crucial part of the NVQ level 3 course for hairdressers and 70 models are needed in all. Offers of help have so far come from Saltash rugby club and LiveWire youth club.

The theme for the sow is hairstyles through the ages, starting with cavemen and ending up in the l980s featuring Vikings, Elizabethans and Elvis among others. Models would also need to be available prior to the show for rehearsals. Any potential models are asked to contact Jean Bignell at the college on 01752 850207.

Death of a

former registrar

THE death has occurred of Margaret Haynes, former registrar of Saltash and secretary of Saltash May Fair committee, at her home in town.

Mrs Haynes was connected with many organisations over the years. Born in Cumberland she met her husband, Ray, when she was serving in the WRNS and he was in the Royal Navy. They married in 1951 and moved to Saltash in 1964.

Mr and Mrs Haynes have two daughters, Susan and Christine, and when they were at school she became a dinner lady at Saltash junior school. Later she became registrar from 1979 to 1995 when she retired having officiated at 2,000 weddings.

Even after retiring as May Fair committee secretary she helped out at the Fair and recorded the half marathon results each year. Margaret was also treasurer and secretary of the Maurice Higgins room in Victoria Gardens and her husband was chairman. They retired in March of this year due to her husband's ill health.

In earlier days Margaret was a keen keep fit member and was their secretary and also held office in the national keep fit association. She was a member of the Soroptomists; formerly served on the victim support committee; a former member of Saltash flower club and chairman of the local NSPCC committee. Both Margaret and Ray were members of Saltash First Forum. The funeral was held at St Stephen-by-Saltash parish church. Mrs Haynes leaves her husband and two daughters.

Evangelist

in Saltash

HEALING evangelist, Rev Melvin Banks, is to visit Saltash on January 20 and 21 and conduct evangelistic and divine healing rallies at St Stephen's school, supported by Saltash new Life Church.

Both churchgoer and non-churchgoer were welcome at the meetings at which admission will be free. Rev Banks has been conducting crusades for over 30 years and has travelled around the world.

His evangelistic healing missions have drawn thousands in many countries. Meetings have been held in churches, chapels, public halls and his l,000 seater marquee.

Talk on nuclear

submarine work

CARADON'S full council, which met this Wednesday, were given details of a visit by Captain Binns of the Royal Navy to a council district service advisory panel at which details of nuclear safety issues at Devonport Dockyard were given.

Captain Binns outlined the rigorous safety procedures involved in the decommissioning and storage of nuclear submarines.

Regarding future arrangements for the storage of such submarines he said 15 responses had been received from consultations with the industry, which were currently being assessed, and there would be a three year public consultation period.

He stressed that to date no sites had been allocated for this work.
