RBL evening

at the Rodney

SALTASH Royal British Legion held a social evening at the Rodney Inn on Saturday evening when the annual draw was held.

Guests were welcomed by president, Mrs P Kitcatt, and music was provided by John Honywill on keyboard. Chairman, Bill Dent, welcomed deputy mayor, Eve Storey, who was accompanied by her consort, her husband. Mrs Storey started the draw, the first three winners of which were Mr G Pink (£100), Mrs Proctor and Mrs K Watkins.

Mr Dent said collections for Saltash Poppy day this year had amounted to £7,500 and he congratulated two of the main collectors who had spent many hours outside local shops. Mrs Kitcatt and Mrs N Nicholson received applause for this. Last year Saltash raised £7,300.

SHADO bazaar

SHADO held their Christmas bazaar at their centre in Plougastel Drive with cake, craft, bingo and white elephant stalls.

Ken Carpenter made and decorated a chocolate cake for the raffle, this won by Mrs P Bentley.

The main raffle winners were: Mrs D Steed, Mr F Perkins, Mrs M Ruberry, Mr Pethick, Mrs S Edwards, Miss A Farnworth, Mrs D Ward, Mrs M Deer and Mrs C Hall.

Other activities held recently have included a talk by Sue Hooper on 'Women in Leadership'. Elsie Edgecombe gave a talk on Saltash, taken from an account of places and happenings written after the Second World War, while Mrs G Norris brought slides of her holiday in Chile, with views of glaciers.

David Trewin gave a talk on the Grand Canyon and Arizona, illustrated with slides, and quiz afternoons have also been held.

Ladies in concert

A CONCERT by Saltash Ladies choir, held at the Pilgrim United Reformed church in St Levan Road, Devonport ,on November 25 was well supported. The choir, under the direction of Linda Eastlake, with accompanist Eileen Hatch, performed a varied programme of songs from the shows and other favourites, as well as seasonal numbers, with recitations and and readings by Nesta Heale and Marian Ellis - as well as solos by Cicely Sharp and Beryl Seabrook.

The choir has a busy month ahead, with concerts on December 6 at Nazareth House, December 13 at the Royal Marine Barracks and on December 16 when they will combine with Saltash choir to give a carol concert at the Wesley Methodist church.

Funding for Shopmobility?

IT has been recommended that funding is identified by Caradon council for a feasibility study of proposed improvements to Shopmobility in Belle Vue Road, Saltash.

Exam successes

STUDENTS who attend the Bethany school of speech and drama have passed in the recent autumn examinations with high marks.

Those who passed are: E Lucas, S Hart, Eleanor and Max Venables, Toni Dent, Kieran Bignall, Tobin Foote, Claire Payne, Victoria Lord, Rachel Sturgeon, Tyler and Chloe Rayford, Joshua Luscombe, Natalie McGarry, Ebony Barrett, Abigail Murton, Lucy Vennard, Jason Grange, David Richardson, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Teresa Kowalski, Rebecca Bazley and Jacqueline du Plessis.

Those who attended the Indian Queens festival also gained high marks - Lucy Vennard, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Alison Spreadborough and Bethany Foote.
