Fashion for St John

A FASHION show by Marianne Fashions, held at Saltash Guildhall, raised £365 in support of the Saltash St John new ambulance appeal.

Gillian Richards of Marianne Fashions was presented with a basket of flowers by Cadet Sergeant Hayleigh Bunt, Saltash St John Ambulance quadrilateral division. She is also this year's Cornwall county cadet of the year. John Honywill was presented with a bottle of wine by cadet Hayley Cornish, in appreciation for being pianist for the evening. St Ambulance Saltash 'Q' division thanked all who supported the event.

Future fundraising events include a Bodyshop direct party on November 22 at 7.30pm and a Christmas bazaar on November 25, both at Saltash St John Ambulance Hall. A mince pies sale is to take place at the former Martins shop in Fore Street on December 11, on the same evening that the carol service takes place and Saltash town Christmas lights are switched on.

Parentalk

A PARENTALK day was held at St Nicholas and St Faith church rooms on Saturday to discuss the problems of parenting, and how to get help.

Free lunch for volunteers was organised by Bettine Peters and the Mothers' Union, and music was provided by Darren Jane.

A creche was run in the morning by JUMP, students of the College of St Mark and St John. In the afternoon there was face painting by Marty Vincent, and Sue Feeney supervised youngsters working on an underwater scene picture for Port View surgery.

Carol Wilson-Barker organised the event for Saltash Churches Together. The day's aim was to talk and identify the problems and where support is needed. The next stage is to put a trained facilitator in place by the end of November.

Buses meeting

A PUBLIC meeting has been arranged with several representatives of the First Western National bus company on November 13 at 7.30pm at Saltash Guildhall. Anyone who has any complaints, or questions for Western National, or is interested in the local bus service, can attend.

Party for

Halloween

FORDER residents met in the hut on the green on Saturday evening for a Halloween party, with fancy dress and lantern competitions for children.

Due to bad weather the barbecue had to be abandoned, but the fancy dress etc was judged by president of the Forder community association, Mona Tomaszewska-Honywill.

The winners were: Rhys Bayliss, Julie Charlton, Thomas Crebbin, Abbey Hall, John Hall, Daniel Hills, Laura May, Abbey Murton, Ben and Rose Halsey, Anna Murton, Chris Reynolds, Phillip Reynolds and Edward Warren.

Hospital coffees

ST Barnabas Hospital autumn coffee morning was held in the day centre and, in spite of rain and gales, a good number turned up.

They were welcomed by chairman of the League of Friends Mona Tomaszewska-Honywill.

A total of £350 was raised for funds - the Friends hoping to bring in money for a new physiotherapy unit at the hospital.

Cooker money

A COFFEE evening, held at the home of Mr and Mrs Peter Payne-Hanlon, raised £60 towards a new cooker for the church rooms in Saltash.

First wedding

SALTASH Guildhall has its first wedding booked for December 23, when Neil, the son of present town mayor, Bryan Preston, is to marry.

The Guildhall has only recently been licensed for weddings after its refurbishment.

Hospice benefits

CHILDREN'S Hospice South West benefited by £808.33 following a performance of The Messiah at Saltash Wesley Church.

Remembrance parade

THE annual Remembrance Day parade and service in Saltash will be on November 12 at 3pm at St Nicholas and St Faith Church. The parade will leave Victoria Gardens at 2.30pm.
