Civic service
on Sunday
SALTASH mayor Bryan Preston and his mayoress, his daughter Jennifer, attended Saltash Civic Service on Sunday afternoon - the parade being led by the town band.
Also attending were members of the town council and representatives from Liskeard, Looe and Torpoint, who walked in procession from Victoria Gardens to St Nicholas and St Faith Church.
At the church the mayor welcomed Canon Richard Maynard who gave the address. The mayor's chaplain, the Rev Bob Munro, officiated and lessons were read by the mayor and the town clerk, Marilyn Small. Gillian Adams was organist. Among those attending from other towns were Liskeard mayor Pat Ambler and her husband, Looe mayor Ron Overd and his wife, and Torpoint mayor Stan Martin and his wife. Guests were entertained with refreshments in the Guildhall after the service.
Allotment wins £500
THE 6th Saltash Brownies entered their allotment into a county competition this year - and won £500 for their efforts.
They were presented with their cheque by the project manager for English Nature for the Tamarisk competition. Yvonne Harrison, who is in charge of the Brownie pack, said the money will go towards more equipment to use on the allotment. At present the pack is writing a history of the allotment, which is rented from Saltash Town Council.
