Saltmill Park to
open as planned
A 'LIGHT hearted' gala event is being planned for the opening of the Saltmill Millennium Project - confirmed as Sunday October 1.
'Despite some horrible weather and various technical setbacks, Saltmill Park will open as originally planned,' said Eric Lewis, Leader of Caradon District Council.
'Anyone who has explored the site during the recent guided tours can confirm that it is taking shape very rapidly, with most of the major landscaping completed.'
Before the park is formally opened in 2001, a celebration day will take place on October 1 involving youth and community groups. The BMX and skateboard area will be opened by Cornwall's Lord Lieutenant, Lady Mary Holborow.
In the meantime, Caradon and their partners in the project Groundwork are appealing to local youngsters not to use the BMX track - although the track itself is complete, the area is 'still a building site, and a dangerous place to be' according to project manager Nick Bishop.
