Hiking out in sunshine
Over 50 people took part in 'Harding's Hike' on Sunday morning as part of Saltash May Fair celebrations.
The hike, which began from Saltash community school and covered five to six kilometres in bright sunshine, was led by Pauline and Patrick Lewis. It lasted around two and a half hours and took in Point Field, Forder, Anthony Passage, Trematon and Longlands. The event is named after former mayor of Saltash, the late Vic Harding, who led the first May Fair hike.
St John launching ambulance appeal
Saltash Division of St John Ambulance will launch a public appeal to raise funds for a new ambulance - and have invited Craig Rich to unveil a 'thermometer' in Fore Street on Saturday May 13, which will display the appeal's progress towards its £40,000 target.
As well as the thermometer, Saltash Division is also hoping to have a Crusader ambulance on display similar to the one it hopes to purchase.
Divisional Superintendent Val Sambles said: 'We have set a target of raising £40,000 over a three-year period to replace and equip a new ambulance to European standards. We have already raised over £18,000.'
Both adult and cadet volunteers run St John Ambulance, which gives first aid support at local events such as the May Fair and the Saltash Regatta. The ambulance plays a vital role in the activities of any duty undertaken, and many public events now require mandatory first aid cover to meet public liability insurance requirements.
'We are urging individuals, local businesses and organisations in Ssaltash to support our appeal over the next three years with donations large or small',said Val. 'Alternatively, they may wish to donate a prize for raffle or sponsor an item of equipment. We will aim to achieve as much publicity as possible for those businesses or organisations that donate.'
Weatherman Craig Rich will start the appeal at 10am outside the vacant former Martins newsagent, at the top of Fore Street in Saltash.
If you would like to donate, or to find out more about the work of St John Ambulance, please contact appeal secretary Marie Baker on 01752 849839.
