Saltash Karate Club members were out in

force at the JSKA Karate World Championships, held at Manchester's Velodrome recently.

The club is run by senior instructor Steve Hollister, a Sensei fifth Dan who, along with two other coaches and five students, travelled up to Manchester with the rest of the SEKU (Shotokan of England Karate Union) team, from Plymouth and Portsmouth.

Around 600 competitors from more than 30 countries, took part, and the SEKU team enjoyed great success, including these five stars from Saltash:

Lee Hollister – JSKA World Team Kumite Champions (35 years-plus); Lee is sponsored by the Sports and Social Club, Babcock Marine.

Mike Grimwood – JSKA World Individual Kata Silver (16-17 years) and JSKA World Team Kumite Bronze (16-17 years).

Hannah Day – JSKA World Individual Kata finalist (fourth place); Hannah is sponsored by Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. Jason Hollister and Mark Chapman were also part of the SEKU team and gave a good performance in their respective categories.

The club currently funds its own trips throughout the year, so if any persons or businesses are interested in sponsoring Saltash Karate Club, they should contact Steve on 07973 642 051 or 01752 849 093 for further information.
