Division Three East Tideford v Saltash In-form Saltash closed the gap on second-placed Tideford who went down to their first home defeat of the season in this local derby. For the third match in row Saltash posted a score of over 250 when batting first with Chris Simpson falling just two short of a century in a spectacular innings of 98 including six sixes. Nick Carpenter and Mark Hutchings got them off to a flyer with 50 on the board in just eight overs before Carpenter was caught for 29. Ross Braund helped move the score on with 27 before falling to veteran Snowden's spectacular caught and bowled. Hutchings never looked in any trouble as he continued his fine form with 72. Saltash did not quite make the most of their wickets in hand with only 23 runs coming off the last six overs thanks to a good final bowling spell from Nathan Lister, but a little flurry from Ray Cook, with 16 not out, saw the Saltash innings end on 267 for eight. With a strong batting line-up, Tideford still fancied their chances but dipped to 17 for three when Richie Durndell nipped out Anton Luiten, Snowden was run out for nought by a direct hit from Hutchings' first ball and Irscott was trapped leg before, also for a duck. Phil Ruse and Mark Lister then put together a fine partnership of 164, despite both being dropped, to give Tideford hope. With Braund keeping it very tight at one end the run rate started to climb and although Ruse completed a a fine individual century and Lister hit a well-struck 53, Anthony Kirby bowled the two tired looking batsmen in quick succession to end any hopes the home side had. There was still time for Durndell to produce a fine bit of fielding to run out McCrackin for a duck to complete a miserable day for the Tideford player as he was also taken for 65 runs in just seven overs earlier. In the end Saltash were comfortable winners by 41 runs. The 35-year-old schoolteacher gave a lesson in batsmanship on his way to 129, crashing 21 boundaries, including three sixes, as Liskeard amassed 284 for four on a bouncy track. His first six scoring shots were all fours as he and Matt Hyslop (66) built on a solid platform laid by openers Tim Hyslop (27) and Justin Kidd (25). Coates and Hyslop junior, although both fortunate at times, batted excellently to compose a third wicket stand of 182 before Coates was bowled by James Palmer, who went on to claim three for 58, while Kiwi quickie Shane Reid remained wicketless for 43 runs. In reply Reid, scorer of a double century against Callington, looked in ominous form until he holed out to debutant Andrew Gaukroger at square leg for 17. Jez Thomas then removed Perry for a duck and Gerrans were struggling at 34 for three. Nick Hoskin again bowled masterfully to concede just 43 runs from his 12 overs but it was Steve Davy who claimed the vital wicket of Hooper for 47 as the innings gathered momentum. Palmer made 26 but was then caught by Paul Hooper at deep square leg to give 13-year-old Joe Coates his first victim at league level – and how he and the rest of the team enjoyed it! Gerrans never gave up the fight and despite Davis finishing ubeaten on 60 it was the return of Thomas that sealed their fate. The veteran medium pacer went on to bag five for 36 – an incredible return on a batsman-friendly surface. Liskeard 284-4 (J Coates 129, M Hyslop 66, T Hyslop 27, J Kidd 25, J Palmer 3-58), Gerrans 206 (K Davis 60 no, S Hooper 47, J Thomas 5-36, T Hyslop 2-35, N Hoskin 1-43, S Davy 1-58, Joe Coates 1-28). Liskeard (20 points) beat Gerrans (seven) by 78 runs. q q q Division four east Callington v Gorran Callington kept their promotion push on track as well as completing the double over Gorran with a 31-run victory. After being asked to bat, Callington openers Keith Olver and Paul Voyzey made a slow start as Gorran seamers Kendall and Adams gave little away in the early overs.  Once they had completed their first spell Olver, in particular, began to up the tempo as the change bowlers struggled with length at times. After Voyzey was caught for 11, Jamie Hatch joined Olver and looked to put Callington into a strong position with boundaries being accompanied regularly by twos and threes. Olver passed 50 with ease and looked set for a big score until he was caught in the covers for 62 as Gorran turned to the more experienced bowlers of Constantine and Liddicoat to get them back in the game. This proved a good decision as they sparked a middle order collapse as Hatch, who had played well for 32, Nick Parker and Jamie Blatchford were removed in quick succession and 102 for two soon became 122 for six. Tom Neville and Simon Riddle set about achieving a respectable score in the last ten overs with both looking to rotate the strike and pick up as many runs as possible. But after launching a huge straight six Neville was caught at mid-wicket for 18. Alex Mortimore then joined Riddle at the crease and they ensured the alloted 48 overs were used with Riddle finishing on 26 not out as Callington closed on 177 for seven. Gorran's reply also began slowly against good bowling from Ian Birch and Nick Parker. It wasn't until Simon Beare was introduced that the breakthrough came as he trapped Adams' leg before. Gorran became more and more bogged down against some accurate bowling and when Churms tried to inject some impetus he was bowled for 27, and the visitors were very much on the back foot. The left-arm spin of Derek Davies was then introduced and he prised out the lower order to claim his third five-wicket haul the season, with only Constantine, with a hard-hit 30 not out, providing the only other score of note. Gorran were bowled out for 146 in the final over with Davies finishing with an impressive five for 35 and Neville bowling 12 accurate overs and claiming two for 34. Callington took 19 points to Gorran's six.
