A new fly-on-the-wall documentary makes stars out of four Saltash nurses.
'District Nurse' follows the activities of Julie Bazley, Heather Ahern, Claire Totman and Jane Coumbe as they deal with the needs of the patients and are on call 24 hours a day.
Community special practitioner, Julie Bazley, said that the filming was something of a surprise and quite hard to get used to.
'We were approached by Helen Newsall, who is the Caradon general manager, about the show and I jumped at the chance.
'It was quite odd to start with, as it is strange being followed around at all hours of the day by a camera crew, but once we got used to it, we started to enjoy it.
'All the patients who were going to be shown were approached by the company beforehand so that they would know what they would be experiencing during our time with crew, and most of them were quite happy with the idea.
'There was respect from the crew towards the patients and if the patients wanted time alone, they got it.'
The programme is part of Carlton West Country's Health Matters series that highlights the medical issues affecting people living in the Westcountry, and Julie said that that programme will help them raise the profile of what is a difficult job.
'With the help of the programme, we have been given the chance to raise awareness of what we go through as district nurses.'
The show is set to be shown on April 5 at 7.30 - 8 pm and Julie is quite nervous about the start of the show. 'It will be quite embarrassing to watch myself on screen, but I am still going to watch it.
'Everybody is coming up to me and asking when it will be on, but we really enjoyed making the show and hope that it will help nursing get a little more respect.'
