Saltash and District Darts League

The League finals of presentation evening held at SWMC on Friday was preceded on Wednesday by the KO Cup Final between Coryton Arms and Rodney B at the Brunel. The match was tight throughout and ended in a surprise 5-4 win for Coryton. Rodney winners were Brian Gray, Bob McCabe, Des Bunney and Peter Matten, while Coryton's winners were Jane Kinsman, Trevor Hewison, Bill Bock, Brian Hoskins and Gary Hewison.

The finals evening started with the Captain's and Secretary's competition. The games were keen and the finalists emerged as Ploughboy's Mike Wormall and Rodney A's Mike Fluhrer, the latter taking the title 2-1. The highlight scoring-wise was a 180 max from Union's Chris Jones. The Woodford Fours final saw Rodney B's Steve Collins, Bob McCabe, Vic Carpenter and Des Bunney overcome Cecil's Darren Ware, Bill Lowden, Ted Maton and Chris Couzins 2-1. The Mixed Doubles finals brought together Coryton's Phil and Jane Kinsman and Brunel Lads' Simon and Sue Braid. A good game saw the former pair's better finishing prove decisive in taking the title 2-0. The Doubles final saw the holders Coryton Arms' Phil and Jane Kinsman pitted against Rodney A's Mike and John Fluhrer, the Rodney pair just edging home to take the title. The Singles Championship saw Rodney A's pair Mike Fluhrer and John Cook facing one another, and Mike took the title 2-0 to gain his third trophy on the trot. The presentation of awards were carried out jointly by Sue Staley, the league treasurer, and Winnie Smale, wife of league secretary Godfrey Smale. After the awards ceremonies, Sue presented presents on behalf of the league teams to Godfrey and Winnie Smale. The evening was a personal triumph form Rodney A- Mike Fluhrer took six individual trophies.

On Friday 7th June, the league will travel to Prison Officers Club, Princetown to play the Annual Challenge match against the Yelverton and District League. Team to be published next week.
