A large party is to be held on Midsummer's Eve, at Saltash Waterside, to replace the wet and windy New Year's Eve event, which was cancelled, writes WILL DONEY.

A Salt(B)ash committee had been formed to make the New Year 2001 celebrations in Saltash especially memorable, but as gales and driving rain washed out their plans, a switch to summer celebrations has been made.

The decision was made at the Salt(B)ash annual meeting this week, to hold the event on June 23. It is hoped this will be at a better time for weather.

The committee had raised over £6,000 for the cancelled New Year's Eve party and plans are now being made for the June festivities, which will include fireworks and entertainment and the possible lighting of the beacon.

The chairman of Salt(B)ash, Mrs Jo Grail, who was re-elected as chairman during the meeting, thanked the town council for their donation of £500, together with Spinnaker International and all those who had supported the event with donations.

Jo added that any organisation wishing to entertain during the evening should contact her on (01752) 845957.
